How to Set Up Android Auto in a BMW

Follow these steps to enable Android Auto in BMW for the first time:

Before You Start:

  • Ensure your smartphone is running Android 10 or newer.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
  • Have an active mobile data plan.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide:

1.  Pair Your Device

  • Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth on your Android phone.
  • On your BMW iDrive system, navigate to COM > Mobile Devices > + New Device and select Phone calls and audio.
  • Select your Android device from the list and confirm pairing on both screens.

2.  Enable Android Auto

  • After pairing, select Use Android Auto on your BMW iDrive screen.
  • Follow on-screen prompts to grant Android Auto necessary permissions.
  • Turn on notifications for the Android Auto app when prompted.

3.  Start Using Android Auto

  • Once connected, access Android Auto from the BMW iDrive menu.
  • Use Google Assistant for hands-free commands, navigation, and media control.

Troubleshooting: Android Auto Not Working in BMW?

If Android Auto is not working in your BMW, try these fixes:
  • Restart your phone and BMW iDrive system.
  • Ensure your BMW software is up to date. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections on both your phone and BMW.
  • Re-pair your device. Remove and reconnect your phone under COM > Mobile Devices in iDrive.
  • Ensure the Android Auto app is updated in the Google Play Store.
